Chamonix
Chamonix offers something for everyone. A fine skiing resort in the winter offering 75 pistes, ranging from nursery slopes to the most demanding off piste ski runs, it is the place to be. The city itself is very picturesque with a range of traditional style apartment buildings and hotels that cater for all budgets and preferences. Chamonix is about an 8 hour drive from Calais and located close to the famous Mont Blanc mountain in the Alps which is visible from many of the hotel rooms and apartments in Chamonix. In the summer the mountains offer fabulous walks, mountain biking, parascending, white water rafting and mountain biking amongst others. The city itself is a shoppers paradise with facilities including supermarkets, specialist local shops, ski hire shops aplenty and a range of fine restaurants. Other things to do include bars, night clubs, a cinema and an indoor golf and tenpin bowling centre. Local shuttle buses take you around the town for free, and a similar arrangement with the buses takes you to all the main cable car destinations. An ideal location for many activities and being close to both the Swiss and Italian borders Chamonix really has much to offer both summer and winter.
