Hotel Chateau Tilques , Tilques
Overview
If ever there was a list of reasons to take your car across the Channel, in our opinion Chateau Tilques must be up there. From the moment we arrived until our reluctant departure, we felt immersed in an oasis of peace and tranquillity – a real ‘far from the madding crowd’ bubble which you just don’t want to burst anytime soon. We stayed in a Pavilon du Parc room – spacious, well equipped with it’s own balcony looking out to the surrounding woodland.
Although the Chateau rooms are fantastic and have heaps of character and old world charm, the Pavilon has the swimming pool – so you don your outfit and the robes provided and take a short stroll down the corridor into a lovely indoor heated pool where you can swim while watching the wildlife outside – plenty of rabbits before breakfast we found. It’s a really easy drive from Calais to Tilques – it took us no more than 35 minutes after a smooth Seafrance crossing and as you get nearer Tilques there are helpful signs directing you to the Chateau, which is such a landmark that the road is named thus.
If you want to set out from Tilques, St Omer is a quaint, interesting market town just a 10 minute drive away – plenty of little shops and places to eat or just people watch. Not to be missed is the culinary experience that is ‘Le Vert Mesnil’ – the Chateau’s restaurant, where we had an unforgettable meal full of surprising twists and turns, conducted at a relaxed pace – no rush, we arrived at 7pm and left well after 10pm. What more can we say, except one unforgettable night at this special place was not enough….we shall return!
